Karate gives us the foundation for self-defense and ultimately teaches the principles of non-violence. Our branch of Hidy Ochiai’s Washin-ryu in Honesdale strives to pass on the philosophy and teaching of Hidy Ochiai, the founder. In each class, we learn and practice self respect, respect for others and gain better concentration, self-confidence and self-discipline. Along with this comes the enjoyment of karate as a sport and as a means towards physical health. Students include men, women and children. The positive effects of our classes can be seen in our students classwork, jobs and relationships as they bring these benefits into the community.
