About The Instructor
Mr. Mike Moan
Mr. Mike Moan is a 7th degree Black Belt in Washin-Ryu Karate Do under Master Hidy Ochiai. He has been a student of Master OchiaiÌs since March 1, 1973 and continues to train and study with him in Vestal, New York and Connecticut. Mr. Moan has been a branch instructor in charge since 1979 in Meriden, CT. and in 1992 opened a branch in Middletown, CT under Master Ochiai. The Middletown Dojo offers Karate classes for all ages and levels of ability four times a week. It also offers Kickboxing two times a week.
In 1992, Mr. Moan also started an ÏAfter School ChildrenÌs Karate ProgramÓ in several elementary schools in Connecticut. At the present time, he is teaching the in four different Elementary Schools around Connecticut. He was employed by the East Hartford High School system as a security officer that same year.. In 1996, he was promoted to Security Team Leader for the East Hartford High School Security Team, with 8 Security Officers to supervise and approximately 2,300 students to watch over.
Since November 2002, Mr. Moan has been one of the instructors for, ÏYour Best DefenseÓ, a course taught as part of the Girl Scouts Scholars Program in New York City, New York. As an instructor, he is very pleased with the results and achievements the Girl Scouts have made and look forward to future association with the Scholars Program.

Hidy OchiaiÌs Washin-ryu Karate Do of Middletown is an Official branch school of Master Hidy Ochiai, who has his Headquarters in Vestal, New York. For over 15 years we have provided instruction in the art Ò sport of Japanese Karate (empty hand self-defense) through regular classes, childrenÌs after school programs, and participating in special community events.
WASHIN Ò RYU KARATE DO:
Washin-ryu Karate Do classes are open to men, women, and children of all Ranks, ages and abilities under the instruction of Mr. Mike Moan, a 6th Degree Black Belt. Begin your training at your own pace with no contract to sign. Beginners do not need a uniform. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays at various times throughout the week. Please see class schedules for specific class times. During these classes you will experience the art and discipline of Japanese Karate, Self-Defense, Sparring and a taste of different Japanese weapons. On Saturdays after the morning class, Mr. Moan offers an introduction and practice of Iaido.
